2017 Inductees

The Class of 2017 was formally inducted and recognized at the Bow Valley Sports Hall of Fame 2017 Induction Celebration on September 28 at Banff Park Lodge in Banff. This Class includes all previous Banff Sports Hall of Fame Inductees from 2005, 2006 and 2008.   

Rob Bosinger – Athlete

Rob Bosinger represented Canada in three World Alpine Ski Events.

Jim Brewster – Pioneer

Jim Brewster financed and developed Mt Norquay & Sunshine. 

Jim Buckingham – Builder

Every spring for over 30 years, “Bucky” has taught his now famous canoe course in Banff

Louis S. Crosby – Pioneer

Lou Crosby was an athlete, builder, coach, official, administrator, financial supporter and spectator of sport. 

Rob Crosby – Athlete  

Rob Crosby was Gold medal winner 1939 & 1940 Canadian Amateur Ski Association Championships.

Sharon Firth – Athlete

Having racked up countless medals and record Sharon alongside her sister Shirley was the only Canadian woman skier to complete in four consecutive Olympic Winter Games.

Shirley Firth – Athlete

Voted six times as Canadian female Nordic skier of the year, Shirley 16 year racing career was filled with gold and silver medals.

Thomas Grandi – Athlete

Thomas Grandi was Canada’s best male technical alpine racer in the 38 year history of the World Cup.

Maria Hawkins – Athlete

A four year member of the Canadian National Road Cycling Team, Maria Hawkins pedaled her way to international athletic success. 

Bruce Henry – Builder

Member of Banff Ski Runners, Henry competed in all Alpine Ski Events at Club and Provincial Level and the National Jr. Alpine Championships.

Scott Holland – Athletic Achievement

Guinness World Record for most golf played in 12 hours raising over $30,000 for Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.

Jerry Johnston – Builder

Jerry Johnston’s creative inventions of special equipment and teaching techniques made a huge difference in the lives of those with disabilities.

John (Jack) MacAulay – Builder

Jack MacAulay was Chief architect behind the success of Banff minor hockey after 46 years of coaching.

Dean Magee – Athlete

After being an all star through his minor hockey days in Banff, Dean Magee began his pro career in the NHL.

Karen Percy – Athlete

Karen Percy won Canada’s first medal at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, bringing Banff  two Bronze Olympic medals.

Doug Robinson – Builder

Doug Robinson excelled at every aspect of skiing, racing, coaching, course design and club development.

Brian Skrine – Builder

Brian Skrine spent over 30 years rising to prominence in the world of Alpine Ski officiating.

Dave Spence Sr. – Builder

Dave Spence Sr. was one of Alpine Skiing’s earliest advocates. Dave was Western President of the Canadian Amateur Ski Association for 10 years.

Stafford Family – Achievement

The Stafford Family has reflected the true spirit of sports and leadership for three generations.

Bonnie and Mike Wiegele – Achievement

Founders of Mike Wiegele Heli-Skiing, Banff Quickies and Alpine Racers. Bonnie & Mike’s love and passion, success and support of athletes in sport represents an outstanding achievement.
