What We’re Looking For
Our Board Directors are ambassadors for the True Sport principles and the vision of the Council within their communities. We’re looking for individuals who represent diverse communities and backgrounds to enhance our approach and programming with inclusive perspectives.
Ideal team members have professional, personal, and technical skills that can support the Council’s range of initiatives in the Bow Valley community. The Council works on an array of projects that require varying skills. We’re looking for volunteers who have experience in the following areas:
- Legal
- Accounting
- Teaching
- Healthcare
- Fundraising
- Governance
- Programming
- Management
- Coaching
- Officiating
- Athletics
What You’ll Be Doing
Board Directors represent the voice of their community and work with the Council on a volunteer basis to develop and facilitate sports and recreation programming, fundraising, and coordination.
Individuals who are interested in the role must be able to commit to:
- Attending regular meetings to discuss agenda topics
- Bringing forward new ideas and projects
- Contributing to Council work a few hours each month
Board Directors are also responsible for raising awareness of the Council’s work and getting the community excited about our vision and mission. The right individuals will be able to articulate our vision, mission, and strategic objectives in their own words to members of the community and communicate the value and nature of the Council’s work to friends, colleagues, and family.
Who We Are
The Bow Valley True Sport and Recreation Council’s mission is to develop a Bow Valley where everyone has access to an active lifestyle and can enjoy sport and recreation without barriers.
The Council works to help sport and recreation providers and partners to increase opportunities for everyone in the Bow Valley to participate in a variety of quality sport and recreation activities—indoors and outdoors, all year long.
The Council focuses on increasing the affordability and accessibility of sport and recreation for all, facilitating better physical literacy, and supporting under-represented groups in the Bow Valley community.
Our Initiatives
The Bow Valley True Sport and Recreation Council administers the True Sport Youth Fund which gives community sport organizations the financial support needed to keep sport inclusive and accessible in the Bow Valley. The Council also manages the Bow Valley Hall of Fame to recognize athletic achievement in our community. We also facilitate the Sport Directory, a database of all the sport and recreation opportunities across the Bow Valley.
